Oh, hyphens are treated as underlining, therefore making something into a header:

Also, I hope I can use the same things in the main body, that are used to separate the front matter (metadata) from the main body. Because I have tended to do a lot of using hyphens as separators in my own notes.

If there’s a blank line before the hyphens, they are a horizontal rule. 3 separate spaced hyphens make a horizontal rule

what if there were fewer hyphens? One? Still a heading.

Two with a space?

Shows as dots because it’s interpreted as a list. But three with two spaces?

That makes a horizontal line again.
